Can I apply without further maths?
What is a typical day like at Cambridge, workload wise?
What access arrangements are available for the entrance exam?
These questions, and more, were answered during the Access Week that CUES ran from 9th-13th of January 2023 and was targeted towards students from underrepresented backgrounds. It aimed to dispel some of the myths surrounding studying engineering at Cambridge and help prospective students learn more about the application process. Over the course of the week a variety of sessions took place:
Day 1: Admissions into Engineering
Day 2: Engineering specialisations and Life at Cambridge
Day 3: Women in the Engineering Department at Cambridge
Day 4: ENGAA Walkthrough
Day 5: Q&A with Engineering students
The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Over 100 students signed up, and here is some of what they had to say:
“I have learned much more about the ENGAA”
“My awareness of the different engineering specialisations offered at Cambridge has grown.”
“It provided a real insight into engineering at university and the attainability of going to Cambridge”
CUES runs many access events throughout the year which you can get involved with. If you are interested in Access and Outreach, please email [email protected] with the subject of ‘volunteering’.
Many thanks to the access officers (Amanda, Chris and Ayushman) as well as all the other students who contributed to the sessions.
